A shared challenge to raise funds for Ukraine
Two groups of employees from Eurofins Food & Water Testing UK & Ireland are undertaking the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ to help raise funds for the Ukraine appeal set up by the British Red Cross.
From 27th until 29th May, 16 members of the Eurofins team will be climbing the three biggest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales – a trek which spans 23 miles and ascents 3064 metres (10,052ft). One group will complete the challenge in three days while another is aiming to complete within just 24 hours.
Eurofins Food & Water Testing UK & Ireland has committed to donating £10 per mile for each person completing the challenge, and has covered all associated travel and accommodation costs to ensure 100% of the funds are shared directly with the charity.
Mark Carnaghan, Managing Director of Eurofins Food & Water Testing UK & Ireland, explained: “As a company we’ve been watching, along with the rest of the world, the devastating events taking place in Ukraine. We’ve been in awe of the strength, hope, and resolve of the Ukrainian people, and of those offering sanctuary, providing donations, and setting up appeals to help.
“Various members of our team across the UK voiced a desire to help, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in the 3 Peaks together. It’ll be physically and mentally challenging for both groups, but a hugely worthwhile cause.”
Since the conflict began, the Ukrainian Red Cross has distributed 400 tonnes of aid, including food, bedding, blankets, tents, water, and hygiene items across the country. Another 350 tonnes of aid have now arrived in Ukraine, including 200 tonnes from ICRC with war-wounded kits, kitchen sets, water and sanitation supplies – with more aid in the pipeline. In addition, several thousand Ukrainian people have received psychosocial support from Red Cross volunteers.
Cara Munrow, Senior Regional Fundraiser for the British Red Cross said: "Through Eurofins’ 3 Peaks Challenge, the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement will be able to continue to provide both immediate support for Ukrainians including food, cash, and medical care, as well as long-term assistance to help civilians caught up in the conflict rebuild their lives and cope with what they have experienced. The team is enabling the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to be there for those that need them most and we are very grateful."
